It all begins with a single step.

It seems a bit simple, but it’s so true! Whether you’re just getting started with a walking program, headed to the gym for the first time or getting started on a big goal like running your first 10k or marathon – it all starts with ONE single step.

We tend to over-complicate things in fitness. We feel like we need a whole be plan all mapped out to know what we’ll do and when, but here’s the thing. Big complicated plans aren’t actually the key to success in many cases. In fact, sometimes they do more harm than good.

SAY WHAT? Yup.
Sometimes that big plan with all the details of where, what and when you’ll take all these many steps is just a one way street to overwhelm and stress. Because…what happens when #reallife and you can’t keep it ALL up? (yup, there you go again…off the wagon).

Yeah…like I said…more harm than good.

Hey, don’t get all wiggy on me. A well thought out researched plan is super duper awesome and essential for some longer term goals.

But for most of us (even those of us with some bigger goals), keeping things simple. Taking it one day, one choice, at a time is actually a way better strategy.

But not in a fly by the seat of your pants kind of way. I’m all for structure and routines (they’re pivotal for a lot of people). But FLEXIBLE structure and routine. That you map out a few days or a week at a time. Maybe a month. And SIMPLE. Like S-I-M-P-L-E.

Consider this: what is ONE step you can take today to move you closer to your goals? Make sure it’s EASY.

Here are some ideas:
  • finish a bottle of water before dinner
  • add a serving of veggies to your next meal
  • sign up for that fitness class or clinic you’ve been thinking about
  • make a date to go for a walk or swim
  • go for a 10-minute walk around the block

DO IT (right now).

Repeat tomorrow. And the next. And the next.

By doing ONE thing each day that moves you forward in just ONE year you’ll be 365 steps ahead. And I think that’s SUPER. #besuperyou
