Do you have someone in your life who is in need of a little extra self-care, friend-love and a giant reminder they are loved, and not alone?

FREE fitness opportunity for two people – please keep reading.

A generous member of the Super You community recently approached me with a really special request. She would like to gift someone struggling enrolment in February 2019’s Learn to Run Clinic with Super You. I was so deeply moved by her generosity I would like to match her gift with a second free enrolment!

Do you know someone struggling?

Nominate them to receive this special gift and you’ll have the opportunity to join them! This incredible gift is inspired by Karen’s own experience through struggle and a desire to give back. Karen is a deeply passionate woman who has found running to be a huge part of her personal practice for staying healthy and well.

Here is her story and her request:

“In December of 2008 I did what I never ever imagined I would do: I checked into the psychiatric ward of my local hospital. I was the mother of a 6 month old baby boy, who I loved and couldn’t love all at the same time. All I can say is I wanted to die, I was incoherent, frightened and incredibly sad, disappointed, full of self-hatred and much more that I could not understand. That was the worst December of my life but in truth, December has always been hard for me as it is for many people who struggle with mental illness. The joyous parts of the season – noise, people, family time, busy-ness, are also incredibly tiring.”

“For the last 10 years I have survived with anxiety, depression and OCD and found out a few truths along the way. One truth is that physical fitness, namely running and yoga, are non-negotiable parts of my treatment prescription. They soothe me in so many ways. The other truth is that friends and family, and continual reminders that I MATTER are breaths of life for me. Before I went into the hospital that painful December a good friend wrote me a letter about how much I mattered to her. I took that letter with me. I keep that letter beside me at night, to this day. Whenever I feel that cloud come over me, I take that letter – and the other tokens family and friends have given me over the years – and I remind myself that my presence is needed here.”

“So my Christmas wish is two fold: that more people write letters to their friends about how much they matter, and that one friend uses that letter to give the gift of fitness to another friend who needs a breath of life right now.”

To nominate your friend:

Please send Karen and I a letter through email.

In your letter please tell us about your friend, why they are so important to you and how this opportunity would help them (and you!). It is our wish that regardless of the outcome you reach out to your friend and let them know you’ve nominated them and why. Whether they receive the gift or not

Nominations close on Friday December 14th, 2018 at noon PST.

Karen and I will announce the recipient(s) of the gift on Friday December 21, 2018 at noon.
