What if you’re on the wrong track?

What if you’re on the wrong track?

Do you always feel like you need to actively work to “get back on track” (sometimes again, and again)? Do you feel like you’re always fighting an uphill battle to stay “on track?” Does it always feel like you’re perpetually in this jump on/ fall off the track pattern? Do you feel a little dizzy from it all?! Yeah, I get it! What if it’s not you…

Don’t Scrimp on Sleep!

Don’t Scrimp on Sleep!

Did you know that the research indicates that the majority of adults should be aiming for 7-9 hours per 24 hour period?! Yeah – and I know most of y’all aren’t getting it! If you’re not…have a read. Hopefully I can convince you to make sleep a priority (even if it means you don’t get an early morning sweat sash…SHOCKING I know!)

Pizza Pasta Salad

Pizza Pasta Salad

This is the brainchild of my child…my 10-year old son Connor! Yay to getting kids to help with meal planning. His idea: I want to make a pasta salad out of pizza toppings. I immediately got behind this. Here’s what we did

Permission to Be

Permission to Be

When a lot of clients come to me they have the philosophy that "more is better." That if 2 HIIT workouts a week is good, then 3 is better. If 1 hill workout a week is good, 2 is better. If 3 workouts a week is good, then 5 is better... STOP!!!!   This is not only...

Banh Mi Poke Fusion Bowl

Banh Mi Poke Fusion Bowl

Last night I set out to make a Poke bowl. Instead of sashimi the plan was to include my caramelized tofu. I pulled up the recipe and started cooking the rice and pickled carrots. I’ve only ever had one Poke bowl so this seemed reasonable. Half way through preparing the remainder of the ingredients to layer into the bowl I realized….I was on the Banh Mi recipe! Since I found that recipe a wee bit lacking in the veg department I looked at my Poke bowl recipe and…THIS was born!

Motivating your kids to make healthy choices

Motivating your kids to make healthy choices

I write this knowing it’s a slightly loaded topic. And I’m the first to tell you as a parent how you choose to support your children to have a healthy lifestyle is 100% up to you. And…we have a situation in Canada. According to the 2016 Participaction Report Card, only 14% of 5-11 year olds, and 5% of 12-17 year olds are meeting the guidelines of 60 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity per day. And it’s not just about physical activity, we’re also seeing increased sedentary behaviours (read: screen time) and decreased quantity and quality of sleep. In fact, some experts are calling it a “sleepidemic”…Did you know that 31% of school-aged children and 26% of adolescents in Canada are sleep deprived…

Ditch the structured program and reclaim your JOY!

Ditch the structured program and reclaim your JOY!

I’ve been talking a lot about “fitness personality” lately. About understanding what makes you tick – what brings you joy! Because somewhere along the line we’ve gotten a bit confused about health and fitness. We decided that in order to be “effective” it hast to be detailed, organized and coordinated. It needs to be structured and organized. You “should” really be following a specific program….What if that idea is TOTALLY WRONG?!

What is your Fitness Personality?

What is your Fitness Personality?

Often times clients come to me at their wits end. They’re trying…but nothing really seems to STICK. They can do most things short term but find that ‘magical motivation’ a somewhat elusive creature when it comes to creating lasting change. When I tell them it’s not them, the sigh of relief is both audible and palpable.
