Zucchini Fettuccine Salad
Love the simplicity of the flavours in this salad. It reminds me of my fave pasta dish at Pagliacci's Restaurant in Victoria, BC (add it to your MUST GO list if you're ever there!). The dish there is called "My Secret Garden" - it's a gorgeous pasta dish with...
The Goal Achievement Trap
Do you ever find yourself so caught up in the “getting there” that you lose track of the joy of the journey? I see this a lot in fitness. You set a goal: run 10k, lose 10lbs, hike to the top of the mountain…whatever inspires you. You work hard to prepare. You do the training, you dial in that nutrition, you challenge your body, mind & soul. You sweat. A lot. You prioritize your time & energy to make it happen. And you reach your goal…but….
Body love & losing weight (isn’t that a contradiction?)
The other day I was chatting with a group of women around the topics of body love, self-compassion & health. In hushed tones one of them shyly asked me, “can I love my body…and still want to lose weight?” She asked me as though it was some dirty little secret, that somehow she couldn’t desire to change her body – and still love her body. That the two ideas were somehow contradictory. And I realized that there was a need for clarification!
Be Body Positive #12: Be Unstoppable
Being body positive is about so much more than feeling comfortable & happy in your body. It’s about the lens through which you view your world. It’s about the attitude you take to your life and how you “show up.” It’s about the confidence with which you carry yourself and the unstoppable spirit that you possess. You are capable of so much more than you know. And it all starts with a belief in your ability to do whatever it is you decide YOU want to do. #besuperyou
Be Body Positive #11: Change the Conversation
If I could speak up now, this is what I would say: “This is my body, and how I choose to feed it is solely up to me. I know you are well meaning, and I love you, but I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t comment on my choices.” And you might think that sounds harsh, but the bottom line is that it IS my choice – my body, my choices – your commentary isn’t necessary or welcome.
Find your Fit
I can’t say this enough. There is truly no one right way to be healthy & fit. One of my missions is to change the current fitness paradigm. I want to move it away from a hard and fast “one size fits all” fashion-centric approach – where we are more focused on our short term aesthetic outcomes than the quality & longevity of our life! I want to drive change and inspire a fitness paradigm that encourages people to take ownership over their own body, their health & their well-being.
Quit. No really, QUIT!
You might be surprised to hear me say this, but I think you should quit. Yup, I said it. I think when it comes to your health & fitness – if there is something that you’re doing that is causing you stress, dread or disdain, I think you should QUIT!
What if, NOW.
Do you ever find yourself trapped in “if this, then…” thinking? I was chatting with someone the other day about clothes shopping and she said she refused to buy new clothes until she committed to her fitness plan for 3-months without exception. Now I’m ALL for rewarding the behaviours you want to see in your life, but this felt a little more punitive. I (gently) questioned, why not buy something now that makes you feel great NOW? She brushed it off and the conversation moved on, but it got me thinking…
Be Body Positive #10: Drive Change
It’s easy to become down on yourself when you’re bombarded by messaging that tells you that you’re not fit enough, thin enough, good enough. It becomes common place to feel like you’re not doing enough. That you should do more, be more, have more and desire more. But if we step back and recognize that the messaging we’re hearing is preying on our deepest insecurities with the intent to sell us something you’ll start to see things through a different lens.
Tamari Almonds
Ok, maybe I’m late to the party here but Tamari Almonds are SO easy to make. And way cheaper too! Thanks to the amazing new cookbook by Angela Liddon for showing me the way. PLUS I can use Gluten Free Tamari to keep it better for me. When I found out I was celiac not having Tamari Almonds was one of the things I mourned (I know, it’s a bit dramatic, but I did). Thank you Oh She Glows Everday!
