Be Body Positive #9: Be an Encourager

Be Body Positive #9: Be an Encourager

“Wow, you’ve lost weight, you’re looking great!” This is the compliment so often given when people are starting to see the results of their healthy lifestyle. And I’m all for compliments. Celebrating and encouraging people is so wonderful. It helps them feel good about the choices they are making and for many, fuels their motivational fire! We all love a good compliment. It boost our ego in a lovely way. But I think we’re missing the mark…

Be Body Positive #8: Know you’re not alone

Be Body Positive #8: Know you’re not alone

I struggled with my body image for the majority of my life. As a trainer and fitness coach I also know all about the struggle. And the assumption is often “she’s thin, she doesn’t struggle” OR “every plus size woman wants to lose weight.” But that really isn’t the case. Your relationship with your body has relatively little to do with your physical characteristics. I have known plus sized women who embrace their body and ROCK their health & fitness and size ‘0’ women who don’t do either.

Client Spotlight: Julia Chung

As a coach I am so grateful to be able to witness shifts in people's health & fitness. But the mental/emotional shift is often even more profound than the physical one. And what's even greater is that it is that shift that provides the greatest (and longest...

Be Body Positive #7: Embrace your Humanity

Be Body Positive #7: Embrace your Humanity

This journey isn’t about being perfect. Perfect (for you) moves with your priorities and your goals. And it will change and evolve as you do – it’s more of a moving target than a static thing to be reached and claimed. And as you travel towards this ever moving target please remember to bring grace. Grace for yourself and for your humanity.

Be Body Positive #6: One Choice at a Time

I love the enthusiasm I see when people decide to make changes in their health. They’ve had that “aha” moment where they’ve decided they’ve had enough of not feeling awesome and they’re ready to make serious changes! YES! Music to my hears. But sadly what I often see is people making WAY too many changes all at once. They’ve “got a plan” and they’re going to DO IT (dammit). Awesome. I love a good plan. What I don’t love is rigidity.

Be Body Positive #5: Ditch the Diet

Be Body Positive #5: Ditch the Diet

Here’s the thing about fad diets, detailed meal plans, cleanses, “detoxing” and various other diet methods. They don’t work long term. In fact across the research 1/3 to 2/3 of dieters regain the weight (and often times more) within 2-3 years.

Be Body Positive #4: Embrace your Sparkle

Be Body Positive #4: Embrace your Sparkle

Your body is a gift. Your ability to move is a blessing that is not bestowed upon everyone. So move it. Find ways to move that bring you joy! Exercise isn’t punishment! It shouldn’t be something you dread! If it is…you’re doing the wrong kind (for you). Want some ideas…

Be Body Positive #3: Banish Black & White

Be Body Positive #3: Banish Black & White

Do you ever get caught in black & white thinking? You know…
“I had a cookie, so I may as well start fresh tomorrow!” OR…”I skipped my workout today so sure, let’s get take-out,” or one of my faves…”this week isn’t going as planned (Wednesday), I’ll start again Monday”
